Rosie - Hero of India
Journey: Delhi to Pakistan
Breed: Kathiawari mare
Age: Around 10 years
Historically Kathiawari horses are from the Kathiawar peninsular in Gujarat (India). Gandi's father was once the hereditary Diwan, or prime minister there. They are a proud and noble breed whose ancestors are said to have come from Alexander the Great (356 - 323 BC) when he originally landed in India. Arabian blood was later introduced by the Mogul emperors and again later by the British in Bombay.
Rosie's features are typically Kathiawari. She is distinguished by the funny curve to her ears, light body and sloping shoulders. She is different to her cousin, the Marwari horse, because she has a slimmer streamlined face.
For endurance and stamina nothing will beat Rosie in her native country. She is perfectly adapted to the environment in India. Kathiawari are famous for their endurance, endearing qualities and affection. Rosie typically loves dust baths and goes nuts over 'gur' (solid chunks of local raw Indian sugar).
